Introducing Connectivo LMS - Canvas Course File Accessibility Remediation Inside Your LMS
Connectivo LMS integrates automated accessibility remediation directly within LMS platforms like Canvas. It automatically audits, fixes, and publishes accessible course materials—including PDFs, slides, documents, spreadsheets, images, and videos right in your preferred LMS.

Higher education institutions face a unique accessibility challenge: thousands of course files PDFs, slide decks, Word documents, spreadsheets, images, and videos uploaded by hundreds of instructors each semester. These files reside in the learning management system, and most have never been checked for accessibility compliance.
We are introducing Connectivo LMS a Canvas LMS integration that brings automated accessibility remediation directly into the instructor's workflow. No external dashboards, no browser extensions, no separate logins. Connectivo LMS lives inside Canvas as a native LTI 1.3 tool.
The Problem: Course Files Are the Biggest Accessibility Gap
Universities have made significant progress remediating their public facing websites. But course content the files students interact with every day remains largely untouched.
A single course can contain dozens of documents:
Lecture slides
Syllabi
Case studies
Assignment briefs
Budget templates
Video recordings
Multiply that by hundreds of courses across dozens of departments, and the scope becomes overwhelming.
Instructors are not accessibility experts. They are subject matter experts who need to focus on teaching. Asking them to manually remediate every document fixing heading structures, adding alt text, correcting reading order, tagging tables is unrealistic at scale.
Sending files to a third party remediation service introduces delays, context switching, and version control problems.
How Connectivo LMS Works: Three Steps Inside Canvas
Connectivo LMS installs as an LTI 1.3 tool inside Canvas. Once configured by your IT team, instructors see a new sidebar item in their course navigation called Access Hub.
Step 1: Audit
Connectivo automatically scans every file in the course PDFs, PowerPoint slides, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, images, and videos.
Each file is analyzed for:
Missing alt text
Broken heading hierarchy
Unlabeled table structures
Incorrect reading order
Missing bookmarks
Color contrast failures
Every issue is categorized with a severity score so instructors can see exactly what needs attention.
Step 2: Remediate
Connectivo LMS offers two remediation modes:
Review Mode
Files are remediated and held for instructor review. You approve each file before it replaces the original in Canvas.
Auto Mode
Files are remediated, validated, and automatically published back to Canvas no manual step required.
Connectivo fixes:
Heading structure
Alt text
Reading order
Table tags
Color contrast
Captions
Then it validates every change against WCAG 2.2 AA and PDF UA standards.
Step 3: Publish
Remediated files are uploaded back to Canvas or held for review depending on the mode.
Original files are always preserved. Connectivo never deletes or overwrites without a compliant replacement ready.
Every replacement is tracked in the Access Hub so instructors and administrators have a complete audit trail.
Six Content Types, One Workflow
Connectivo LMS handles six content formats:
PDF Tags, reading order, alt text, bookmarks, table structure, language metadata
PPTX Slide titles, reading order, alt text, contrast, unique slide names
DOCX Headings, lists, table headers, language tags, bookmarks
XLSX Sheet names, table structure, cell descriptions, header rows
Images Alt text, color contrast, text in images, long descriptions
Video Automatic captions, scene descriptions, audio alternatives, transcripts
Built for Instructors, Not Just IT
The Access Hub is designed for instructors. Every file shows its compliance status Completed, Pending, or Failed with issue counts and severity scores.
Instructors can:
Filter by status
Search by file name or type
Remediate one file or the entire course
The per file issue inspector shows:
What was found
What was fixed
Before and after comparisons
Files with zero remaining issues are automatically marked as Completed.
Instructors never leave Canvas. The Access Hub loads as a native sidebar tool via LTI 1.3. No separate login, no external dashboard, no browser extension.
Institution Wide Compliance Reporting
Administrators get a full institutional view.
The dashboard shows:
Before and after compliance scores
File level metrics
Remediation status
It tracks all six content types across every course with status indicators:
Ready
Warning
Pending
Administrators can quickly see which courses are complete and where attention is needed.
Why Canvas LMS Accessibility Matters Now
The Department of Justice Title II rule under the Americans with Disabilities Act now requires public universities to make web content and mobile applications accessible.
This includes learning management systems and course content.
Accessible materials benefit all students. Structured documents with headings, alt text, and proper reading order are easier to navigate, search, and use on any device.
Getting Started
Connectivo LMS is available now for Canvas LMS institutions.
The integration is configured at the institutional level by your Canvas administrator and requires no changes to existing courses.
